This Past Thursday American celebrated Thanksgiving. Now Thanksgiving isn’t exactly my favorite holiday, that honor would go to Halloween & Christmas. I do however love how Thanksgiving brings friends and family together. We are brought together, and we enjoy favorite recipes that have been passed down for generations & we celebrate the art of Gratitude.
The formal definition of gratitude is the quality of being thankful. Readiness to show appreciation for and in return kindness.
Gratitude to me is keeping myself in that positive mindset as much as I possibly can. We are all human & its impossible to be happy & upbeat all of the time. However when I am low & then force myself to focus on what I’m truly thankful for, It always seems to lift my spirits, confidence, and overall will to succeed. Looking at all I am grateful for reminds me that what I do & who I am is indeed important.
I actually started a gratitude challenge about a month out before Thanksgiving that I heard about from my MOPS group. You text one person every day for 14 days 3 things your grateful for. The whole idea is that practicing and forcing yourself to focus on what you are grateful for will essentially shift your perception. Your problems may dissipate or seem less monumental. That is the power of gratitude to alter how you see things so that you may focus on all the abundance you already have been blessed with.
Well it was a doozy of a day for me. I woke up pretty optimistic actually, got my yoga in & actually all together & out the door at a decent time. However I could not shake this nagging feeling that there was indeed a holiday performance at my daughters school… The kind where you dress your children up in their holiday fineware & you yourself get all gussied up to go watch them belt out the adorable holiday songs they have been practicing for months. I checked the school calendar- nothing. I checked my email for reminder emails-again nothing. I asked my daughter if she could remember if there was a program today at school- of course she said “no way!” So poor naive mom sent her girl off in a freakin paw patrol dress to school. Thank God my intuition just wouldn’t stop nagging and I asked the teachers at drop off about the situation & sure enough if the program wasn’t happening in less than an hour. So there I sat in the chapel with everyone dressed up to the nines & me in yoga pants… Yes yoga pants & a hoodie. Nice try MaryJean… but honestly your pearls have nothing on my finest athleisurewear….. That in a nut shell is Mercury going retrograde. The unexpected & uncomfortable around every corner, but then again as much as me and my children looked like a couple of misfits up in that chapel. I will never forget my baby girl scanning the audience for us & then when she found us, that huge smile of pride from seeing her momma and sissy there waving like some crazy lunatics…. That part was totally Venus going direct.
Venus went direct this morning in Libra but opposing Uranus. So sudden and earth shaking events pertaining to your love life occurring will be more likey. This doesn’t have to always be related to your romantic love life though. Love is in many forms, like me feeling the love from my baby girls pride in her holiday performance. Or you might suddenly find out your pregnant or that a beloved friend is moving back into the state for example. Venus going direct opposing Uranus can indicate sudden and jolting events in any matter relating to love and relationships in your heart.
Then of course the dreaded Mercury retrograde… Which is truly nothing to fear at all. If you get used to avoiding signing contracts and making huge decisions/ buying electronics during this period, you will grow to see that this period is really more of a Netflix & chill / reflective period of time in your life. Especially leading up to the holidays, take time to slow down think about all you have evolved and overcome in this emotional rollercoaster of a year. Truly enjoy the season and time with your loved ones. For we will be officially out of Mercury retrograde & the shadow period right in time for Christmas. Namaste!
Melt Butter in a dutch pan, add chopped sweet onion- cook for a couple of minutes until translucent. Sprinkle in 1 T of flour at a time, then whisk into the butter-let the flour cook for about a 30 seconds, each sprinkle. Then add cod to the pan, sear each side for about 1 minute. Next add the milk, salt & pepper, english mustard, dill & parsley. Slowy whisk in cheddar until all combined, and then the peas & carrots at the very end. Top with puff pastry on top- cut some slits to vent and sprinkle some additional cheese & cook at 400 for about 30 minutes until the puff pastry has poofed up and is golden brown.
Yoga is currently an extremely popular exercise fad. Yoga for me, and many others however means so much more than some trendy exercise activity to look cool. In fact, in full disclosure, I rarely look half as glamorous as the talented insta yogi’s. The thing is, that Yoga is not meant to be something you do to make you appear better than others. It’s not about being more “hip” and “sophisticated” than others, and it certainly should be seen as so much more than a trendy fad.
Yoga is about promoting and nurturing not only physical heath but mental health most importantly. As previously stated I rarely look cool doing my yoga but I still practice it almost daily. That’s with small children dripping off of me even lol. That is what embracing the realities of life is all about however. There will always be interruptions throughout the day and life. For me though, if I can focus just a little time in my morning to truly concentrate and focus on a little bit of structure, strength and balance in my practice I feel it spill over into adding structure, strength and balance into my overall day and ultimately my life.
I simply do it bc it sets me in a better state of mind. It eases my anxiety without me having to take medicine, it energizes me, gives me more patience which in turn makes me a better mother. It is a moment I can be fully emerged in myself & my connection to the universe.
I must have been about 12 years old when I was walking through a department store with my mother and all of a sudden I started to see auras. I could barely see at all to be honest. I told my mother & she knew immediately what I was experiencing. Migraines are typically genetically inherited and my mother herself had suffered many years from the from them. Hers however, would last for days.
I had my mother there to help me through the thick of it but that didn’t make it one bit easier to cope with. I would remember being at school or baby sitting and knew when those auras hit me that I had about 10 min to get to a dark and cool spot to suffer through the worst of it. Like I said about 10 min after the auras, they would stop. Once my vision would resume to normal, about 5 min later is when the pain would strike my head like a bowling ball hitting the pins. They only way I can describe it is as if I had a metal rod shooting from my eye socket out the back of my head. My neck becomes so unbelievably tense and the nausea which is probably the worst for me, would be unbearable. With a Migraine typically the only way to get past it is to rest…. There is absolutely no resting with that out of this world nausea however. I mean I had two children and could still vouch for the fact it is nothing in comparison to when I get sick from a migraine. I would forcibly make myself throw up during this hellish experience just to get rid of some of the pain in my head in hopes to get some sleep so that I could fully recover.
After about 5 hours or so I would be out of the woods and in the euphoric postdrome stage. Absolutely giddy to finally be pain-free. I am one of the lucky sufferers though… Some can suffer this for anywhere from 4-72 hours and have chronic migraines attacks through their daily lives. I had one friend who had to constantly be on medication to avoid daily suffering, and another woman who had to modify her entire families diet plan, because if she so much as even touched the food that triggered her migraine she would be out. I myself do not get them as chronically as some and mine seem to only be triggered from extreme hormonal changes ie menstrual cycles, birth control, when I was pregnant, right after I had my children ect. Many other triggers however can include ;
I just wanted to touch on this subject a little bit to draw as much awareness as possible. For there seems to so be many misconceptions about Migraines. Everything from “they are just really bad headaches” to the belief that “migraines are actually your fault”. When in fact migraines are debilitating, unpredictable, and above all else terrifying.
We should most certainly not only bring awareness to this disorder, but as well have tolerance.Make it a priority to educate yourselves on the facts of Migraines. I hope one day we can find a way to alleviate all suffers of migraines forever, and I most certainly pray every day that my girls do not get this horrible condition themselves. Until that day however I will continue to bring as much awareness as I can and pray for a release of the pain from the millions of suffers worldwide. Namaste!
The Premise of chakras is simply the idea that there are 7 hubs or hotspot on our body. Spots that are responsible for particular energy and emotions that make up our energetic physic as a whole. Crystals and stones are well attributed for their energetic properties. So using them for their healing qualities to attune and balance the energies of our chakras only makes sense.
Root Chakra is the most primal energy hotspot on our body. This Chakra reperesents our instincts and survivalist nature. This Chakra is about being grounded and feeling safe. I use Red Jasper to balance my root chakra. Red Jasper induces confidence, strength, and life force. This stone gives you the courage to speak up and be heard. To focus on your own independence and life force energy.

The Heart Chakra is all about how you love. Your compassion and warmth for others. If your having problems in being open and accepting of love or how you are warm towards other, this is the chakra you want to focus on clearing and balancing. I love the stone Prehnite for this Chakra. This stone is enhances spiritual connection and deepens the relationship that you have for yourself. For it is essential to love oneself properly before you can embark on relationships with others.
The Throat Chakra is about your truth, and how you properly & effectively communicate with others. This chakra is like the voice in which all the other chakras may be expressed. I love using the blue quartz to balance this Chakra out. For it’s a beautiful stone to enhance communication & bring peaceful & diplomatic expression. Quartz in general are excellent for clearing & protection.
The Third Eye Chakra is your chakra of inner conscious. This Chakra energy is about your intuition & psychic abilities. Your spiritual eye Chakra. I use Sodalite with this Chakra.
