What Yoga Means to Me

img_5361-1

Yoga is currently an extremely popular exercise fad. Yoga for me, and many others however means so much more than some trendy exercise activity to look cool. In fact, in full disclosure, I rarely look half as glamorous as the talented insta yogi’s. The thing is, that Yoga is not meant to be something you do to make you appear better than others. It’s not about being more “hip” and “sophisticated” than others, and it certainly should be seen as so much more than a trendy fad.

Yoga is about promoting and nurturing not only physical heath  but mental health most importantly. As previously stated I rarely look cool doing my yoga but I still practice it almost daily. That’s with small children dripping off of me even lol. That is what embracing the realities of life is all about however. There will always be interruptions throughout the day and life. For me though, if I can focus just a little time in my morning to truly concentrate and focus on a little bit of structure, strength and balance in my practice I feel it spill over into adding structure, strength and balance into my overall day and ultimately my life.

I simply do it  bc it sets me in a better state of mind. It eases my anxiety without me having to take medicine, it energizes me, gives me more patience which in turn makes me a better mother. It is a moment I can be fully emerged in myself & my connection to the universe.

Migrains

I must have been about 12 years old when I was walking through a department store with my mother and all of a sudden I started to see auras. I could barely see at all to be honest. I told my mother & she knew immediately what I was experiencing. Migraines are typically genetically inherited and my mother herself had suffered many years from the  from them. Hers however, would last for days.

I had my mother there to help me through the thick of it but that didn’t make it one bit easier to cope with. I would remember being at school or baby sitting and knew when those auras hit me that I had about 10 min to get to a dark and cool spot to suffer through the worst of it. Like I said about 10 min after the auras, they would stop. Once my vision would resume to normal, about 5 min later is when the pain would strike my head like a bowling ball hitting the pins. They only way I can describe it is as if I had a metal rod shooting from my eye socket out the back of my head. My neck becomes so unbelievably tense and the nausea which is probably the worst for me, would be unbearable. With a Migraine typically the only way to get past it is to rest…. There is absolutely no resting with that out of this world nausea however. I mean I had two children and could still vouch for the fact it is nothing in comparison to when I get sick from a migraine. I would forcibly make myself throw up during this hellish experience just to get rid of some of the pain in my head in hopes to get some sleep so that I could fully recover.

After about 5 hours or so I would be out of the woods and in the euphoric postdrome stage. Absolutely giddy to finally be pain-free. I am one of the lucky sufferers though… Some can suffer this for anywhere from 4-72 hours and have chronic migraines attacks through their daily lives. I had one friend who had to constantly be on medication to avoid daily suffering, and another woman who had to modify her entire families diet plan, because if she so much as even touched the food that triggered her migraine she would be out. I myself do not get them as chronically as some and mine seem to only be triggered from extreme hormonal changes ie menstrual cycles, birth control, when I was pregnant, right after I had my children ect. Many other triggers however can include ;

  • Food Additives
  • Stress
  • Sensory stimuli
  • Changes to sleep factors
  • Physical factors

I just wanted to touch on this subject a little bit to draw as much awareness as possible. For there seems to so be many misconceptions about Migraines. Everything from “they are just really bad headaches” to the belief that “migraines are actually your fault”. When in fact migraines are debilitating, unpredictable, and above all else terrifying.

We should most certainly not only bring awareness to this disorder, but as well have tolerance.Make it a priority to educate yourselves on the facts of Migraines. I hope one day we can find a way to alleviate all suffers of migraines forever, and I most certainly pray every day that my girls do not get this horrible condition themselves. Until that day however I will continue to bring as much awareness as I can and pray for a release of the pain from the millions of suffers worldwide. Namaste!

Chakra Healing Stones

The Premise of chakras is simply the idea that there are 7 hubs or hotspot on our body. Spots that are responsible for particular energy and emotions that make up our energetic physic as a whole. Crystals and stones are well attributed for their energetic properties. So using them for their healing qualities to attune and balance the energies of our chakras only makes sense.

Root Chakra is the most primal energy hotspot on our body. This Chakra reperesents our instincts and survivalist nature. This Chakra is about being grounded and feeling safe. I use Red Jasper to balance my root chakra. Red Jasper induces confidence, strength, and life force. This stone gives you the courage to speak up and be heard. To focus on your own independence and life force energy.

The Sacral Chakra is the chakra that is associated with the energy of creativity, sexuality, arousal and pleasure. It is the sexual hub out of all the chakras. I use Carnelian to balance my Sacral Chakra. Carnelian ushers in a very vibrant energy, an energy of stepping out of the norm, being bold and powerful. This stone inspires ambition and drive. An all around action stone.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is the chakra that deals with your self, your ego. What your beliefs are and is the center of your will power & self esteem. I use Yellow Calcite to clear out old, toxic and self limiting energy. This stone is excellent for irradiating self doubt, and giving one more self confidence.

The Heart Chakra is all about how you love. Your compassion and warmth for others. If your having problems in being open and accepting of love or how you are warm towards other, this is the chakra you want to focus on clearing and balancing. I love the stone Prehnite for this Chakra. This stone is enhances spiritual connection and deepens the relationship that you have for yourself. For it is essential to love oneself properly before you can embark on relationships with others.

The Throat Chakra is about your truth, and how you properly & effectively communicate with others. This chakra is like the voice in which all the other chakras may be expressed. I love using the blue quartz to balance this Chakra out. For it’s a beautiful stone to enhance communication & bring peaceful & diplomatic expression. Quartz in general are excellent for clearing & protection.

The Third Eye Chakra is your chakra of inner conscious. This Chakra energy is about your intuition & psychic abilities. Your spiritual eye Chakra. I use Sodalite with this Chakra. Sodalite is a stone that opens one up & enhances spiritual messages/awakenings. This stone is about balancing between logic and intuitive thoughts.

The Crown Chakra is your connection with the divine. This Chakra will be your area of enlightenment and how you connect with the universe. Amethyst is my go to to heal and balance my crown chakra. Amethyst is the ultimate psychic protection stone. This purple gem heals, balances, & heights energy of love & psychic awareness.

These are my favorite stones to use for chakra healing but there are many other wonderful options in the world of healing crystals and stones. Namaste.

Dream State

Prophetic dreams have always been apart off my life. Since as far back as I can remember, I would always have dreams that would seem bizarre or unusual at the time, but then after a couple of days (or in some cases 24 hours). Events would unfold and ultimately make perfect sense. Many claim to even have been visited by love ones in their dream states as well. For the majority of us though our dreams are an extreme source of being able to understand our psyche & subconscious. It’s like going to a shrink (picking your own brain apart) but for free!

The number one thing I tell people, who ask me questions about dreams are to firstly, try to recollect your emotions that you experienced from the dream. That typically seems to serve as the “theme” of the dream and the overall message. Secondly we pick out symbols that stood out in the dream. For example, I have lately been dreaming so much of traveling, being in a foreign-yet familiar city in my dream, stair cases, being up high (so high that it frightens me). You look up the symbols (typically google works just fine-or any dream dictionary) Such as Travel= movement in life/journey in life, Stairs= good omen/moving forward, high up= rise in status/ or consciousness ect. Then lastly you consider any people you may have encountered in your dream ( whether they be known or not) such as a mysterious tall man you might be attached to in the particular dream.

This is my own personal formula I do to picking apart my dreams & not only discovering potential occurrences in my future but discovering more of myself in the here and now. My own fears and success so to speak. Please let me know of any interesting dreams or dream related questions you may have. Namaste!

Venus Retrograde + New Moon 10/8/18

img_3759

Venus goes retrograde October 5th in Scorpio. I myself have my natal Venus in the 8th house, the astrological house ruled by Scorpio. Let me tell you that when it comes to anything Venus related and Scorpio, get ready for a unworldly emotional subconscious dive into the deep dark ocean of the unknown.

It is mysterious, intriguing and ambiguous. Yet believe me when I tell you nothing will rock your core and transform you quite like an Scorpio aspect/transit will. Scorpio is some serious business, known to be the emotional water sign that represents everything dark and extremely sensual. It is a sign to me right up there with Pisces & Cancer that represents the most intuitionaly inclined energy of all the astrological signs. However though where Pisces is the dreamy/spiritual type & Cancer is the nurturing/emotionally intuitive type, Scorpio is the shadowy/underworld type.

So Venus going retrograde in this sign, for pretty much the entire month of October (going Direct 11/16/18) will bring some seriously fated aspects to your love life. First and foremost anyone with even the slightest knowledge of astrology will tell you the #1 rule of Venus retrograde is you do not undergo any extreme beauty regiments like liposuction, Botox, a drastically new hairdo….Hell, I’d even leave those eyebrows alone if I were you…just sayin. Just don’t do it… trust me on this one & with this particular Venus retrograde with a square mars aspect, just wait.

I would also highly be on the look out for ex lovers or opportunities of forbidden affairs to arise. Be extremely careful with the kind of energy you adhere to because as previously stated, the things that occur in this time are very fated and will stick with you for a lifetime. I’m also a big advocate of steering away from proposals of marriage during this time. Those who typically become or announce engagements during a Venus retrograde will have big time problems….. if the relationship even lasts until they get to the altar….. to be frank.

Then we will have our New Moon in Libra 10/8/18, with some awfully caring and empathetic energy enveloping us. So this would be a lovely time to set some sincere and sensitive intentions towards your family matters. Beware though of the intense Pluto square aspect to this new moon. This will add drama due to Pluto, the planet ruled by Scorpio (that deep, dramatic energy yet again). So handle your affairs with a gentle and loving energy. I wish all of you the happiest of Octobers! Namaste!

MOPS

I recently joined a group, MOPS International. This beautiful network of women encourages and equips mothers of young children to realize their potential not only as mothers, women and leaders in their community, but in their relationship with Jesus, and in partnership with their local church as well. This network of women is about uniting in our motherhood and everyday struggles to support, discover and to inspire each other in every way possible. Finding our Fire is the theme of this year. Have you ever given much thought to what your fire is? Where your passions lie? Especially as mothers, we are so consumed with living and serving our families that we often forget to remember who we are and what we stand for as individual women. We forget our fire.

Meeting with these women and listening to these wise speakers a couple of things that struck out at me were; Firstly, Truly enjoying your littles. We all have heard the “enjoy it while you can, bc it goes by in a blink of an eye”. Not only have we heard this but we all understand it (to an extend), yet the reality is it’s a very difficult concept to apply in everyday life at times. Especially when our babies are so small. We are all so so tired and most often than not in survival robot mode. It’s about making sure everyone is fed, clothed, on a decent sleeping schedule that we forget ourselves and who we are. Raising children is so hard that we don’t realize what pure joy & a treat it truly is to have these pint size little comedians in our every day-to-day life. Have your children ever told a joke or did something that made you laugh or giggle so much that you realized that this very moment of joy would not only linger in your soul forever, but would utterly transform you. That is what enjoying your children is all about. Listing to them playing their make-believe games when they don’t realize you are watching, or seeing them dance with so much enthusiasm. There is so much wisdom to be learned from the little ones about enjoying the innocence and joys in life, join them in letting yourself enjoy the beautiful world around us. Join them in their perception of the world.

Secondly, a profound change in perception will in fact transform you. Think about it… when your children are a mess and you respond in miserable way, they too will feel that energy. Then in return they will give yet an even worse reaction. Thus a vicious cycle of toxic and miserable energy emerges between you and your child. Leaving you feeling more than likely guilty and like a crappy momma at the end of the day. Now I’m not suggesting not disciplining your child, children need structure to thrive in personal opinion. I’m just also a believer in they need a positive environment as well for success for both them and for your piece of mind as the amazing momma you are.

Lastly, Yes the cliché of the old ‘one day the things driving you crazy today, you will surly miss tomorrow’…. Today you perhaps would give anything to get them to stop talking for two seconds, but yet when they are a couple of years older its important to remember how much you will give for them to include and talk with you again just like when they were little. You truly are living the special moments of your life, do not let them pass you by unnoticed.

Seeing people through Gods eyes, not your own. That’s what is so important to keep in mind. You never ever know what a person is going through. Even someone you may classify as a bubbly air head or a cold and distant bitch, is still a human being worthy of love and understanding. You have no clue if they go home at the end of the day feeling not good enough. That’s what MOPS stands for….. supporting and propping your fellow mom up… let them know you see them! and they are not only enough, they are hitting it out of the damn park!

If you are a mom or know a mom, please check out/direct them to the MOPS organization here MOPS. Especially in this day and age where there are so many mom’s out there who are struggling daily, who are lonely, starved for adult conversation, get zero to little sleep, and especially those suffering from even trickier obstacles such as depression and anxiety. We need to come together, we need to love & support one another, we need to talk to one another.

New Moon in Virgo & Me

We have a fortunate new moon in Virgo occurring. Personally I am ready to declare some serious new moon intentions. Virgo is an extremely detail oriented and focused sign. I can not imagine a better type of energy you would want behind and driving your fresh intentions for the month.

I have found myself shedding so many ego issues with the recent Neptune activity as well. I find myself sharper and just a little bit more prepared for the next chapter than say I was about a couple of weeks ago. That’s the way it works though… In July & August we were undergoing so many seriously transformative eclipses, with the sole purpose of shaking us all up energetically.

Communication was hindered as well with the mercury retrograde and shadow periods. So finally at this time, for the first time in months we can shed the cocoon of the summers eclipse and retrograde seasons and not only finally declare but fully focus on where desire to go next. Another aspect of note with this new moon in particular is with the opposition to Neptune-the planet of confusion, deception, and fear. This new moon is about uncovering some major fears to achieve the essential confidence we need for success and to forage on.
