As we near the end of January 2018 the resolutioners (as I call them) from my gym have started thinning out. Please do not misinterpret me, I am all for promoting individuals stepping outside of their comfort zones. Pushing through their boundaries and above all else expanding their own consciousness. However, what does strike a nerve with me, are individuals who embark on setting resolutions without true or genuine intention behind to back the said resolution. Why did you make new year resolutions? Why only on New Years eve? Why do we not make it a priority to dedicate ourselves to our personal self-improvement all year round?

With this thought in mind I started to ponder on what did I need to focus my energy into this new year? With genuine intention…… to make a profound difference not only in my everyday life but in my process of ascension as well. I work on my fitness year round, I meditate and pray to be a better mother, wife, and friend every morning, and heck I even make it a point to floss everyday….or at the very least every other day… what else could the universe want from me?

Then the concept flashed through my mind… One of the hardest actions for humans it would seem is the act of forgiveness. I’m not talking about forgiving your spouse for farting in the car without rolling down the window kind of forgiveness either… I am talking about the gut wrenching forgiveness of a person or act that has truly ripped apart of your soul for whatever reason. For example I thought of a woman from my past who had truly betrayed me and to this day tries to find ridiculous ways to rub my face in whatever… So I thought to myself if I were to forgive this woman as we are all called upon to forgive, what would this look like? I visualized what writing a letter of genuine intention for this woman might look like and this is what I came up with;

I wish for her peace. So that she may be drawn closer to God again in her heart. So that he may be able to free her from her own self-imposed tyranny of ego and narcissistic tendencies. That has run rampant and rotted the essence of her core that in its truest form is bright, beautiful, artistic and most certainly worthy. We are all good. We just get lost… we fall in love and expect people to love us as we think they should. Yet that void is never able to be filled because you are looking for such a love amongst mere mortals that can only  be filled by God’s love alone. Always know that your worth is a thousand times higher than any earthly possession or title. You are Gods child and you are worthy of love, respect, acceptance, and most certainly forgiveness. The thing is before we can accept love, respect, acceptance and forgiveness from others we must be able to love, respect, accept and forgive ourselves. Be loving and good to your neighbor and be loving and good to yourself. In the end all we can do is love and either hold on to with loving arms if our lover wishes to remain. Or if the time ever comes that our lover wishes to leave, it is apart of our duty to humanity and ourself that we let people go without malice or manipulation with loving arms as well. Be good and loving to your neighbors and be good and loving to yourselves.

I found this experience to be of such a cathartic and healing experience for me and then that’s when it hit me…. that this is what the act of setting resolutions is for… for motivation, healing, and above all else ascension. If your enemies can no longer control your emotions, then they can no longer control the narrative of your life. Then you are free to create anything you wish. We can not control what life or people do to us…. we can only control how we react to the said act.

James 3:14-16

But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
